The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Tarzan Milošević, promised Montenegrin milk producers that their requests for increased subsidies will be considered by February 21, when it will be known whether and which requests will be accepted.

The Vice President of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Montenegro, Dragoljub Nenezić, could not specify to the "News" whether he is an optimist or a pessimist regarding the acceptance of the request so that retail prices do not rise, but that he will not sit idly by in the coming period.

"The minister told us that the fulfillment of our requests will be considered in accordance with the existing budget possibilities. In the meantime, we will hold consultations with milk processors and at the end of February, in case the answer from the Ministry is negative, we will increase the prices", said Nenezić.

In order to prevent an increase in the purchase price of milk, which would also cause an increase in the retail price, the dairy farmers proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture, if possible, increase the current subsidies for milk production by 0,05 euros and introduce subsidies that would of animal feed returned to the level of 0,25 euros per kilogram.

According to their data, this would ease the pressure on prices and prevent price increases.

According to the estimates of the Association of Farmers, about 1,5 million euros per year would have to be allocated from the budget for subsidies, which, in their opinion, is not much.
