At the marl dump from the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant on Jagnjil, there are raw materials for the operation of the cement factory for the next hundred years.
One million to 1,2 million tons of cement could be produced annually, it was announced after the meeting of the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Vlastimir Golubović, with representatives of Rudnik Uglja and TE Pljevlja.
Environmental rehabilitation of the tailings would also require the production of stone, which could employ 50 to 100 workers in the future company.
"This is a great opportunity to turn something that is a problem into a product that will contribute to the substitution of cement imports," said Golubović, stating that Montenegro consumes around 800.000 tons of cement annually.
He expressed the hope that the investor of the cement factory will not have to wait long, and that he will not make the job conditional on the construction of the railway line.
The director of Rudnik Uglja, Slavoljub Popadić, said that this company could be a natural partner in this work. He believes that the investor in the cement plant should be a company that has "access to the rather closed global cement market and can bring the most modern technology and knowledge to that factory."
The Chamber of Commerce delegation also visited the Gradir company, which achieved record results in its mines last year when it produced 592.820 tons of lead and zinc concentrate from 25.702 tons of ore.
