Infrastructural and economic connection of the region, as well as good neighborly relations, are priorities to which Montenegro will contribute on the regional level, while fulfilling the overall reform and economic agenda in the process of accession, announced the Prime Minister, Duško Marković.
The Government Public Relations Service announced that today in Sofia, Marković participated in a working lunch organized by the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, for the leaders of the Western Balkans, with the participation of the President of the European Commission (EC), Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU High Representative for foreign and security policy, Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.
"At the meeting, further steps were agreed in the direction of the implementation of obligations within the agenda of connection, especially specific infrastructure projects, as well as the regional economic space", the announcement states.
The Government added that the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor is, in this sense, enhanced in the context of Montenegro, as part of the integration into the European corridors.
The gathering in Sofia was organized at the end of Junker's Western Balkans tour in order to promote the EC Strategy for the Western Balkans.
"Borisov, on behalf of the country presiding over the Council of the EU, and Junker assessed that the EU's messages contained in the Strategy were well received in the region and added that they represent a sign of the EU's long-term commitment to the region and its European future," the statement said.
The Government said that the meeting discussed the individual progress of the countries of the Western Balkans in the process of integration, which is a valid principle affirmed in the Strategy, and how the time before important events, such as the EU-Western Balkans summit, can be used in the best way.
