Due to the predicted morning temperatures of up to minus ten degrees Celsius in the area of Podgorica, Zeta and Malesia, farmers fear that their outdoor crops will be destroyed.
"If the temperature in a few days, as announced, is in the deep minus and the wind is blowing, we will harvest the orchard," said farmer David Camaj.
He clarified that he planted early potatoes on two hectares in the open a little more than 15 days ago.
"There is no chance that the plants will survive at those temperatures, and after that they announce rain, which would further destroy the potatoes," said Camaj.
He pointed out that nature cannot be fought against and that it is a higher force.
Zeta farmer Žaro Maraš pointed out, however, that low temperatures will not do much harm to his crops.
"Because, as far as I know, this wave will not last long, so what I planted outdoors will have little effect on the plants, but I believe that they will regenerate very quickly," said Maraš.
He pointed out that fruit growers could be harmed, especially if the warm winter affected the fruit trees to start forming buds.
Meteorologists have announced that the minimum temperature for the Podgorica area will be minus 2,3 degrees Celsius, and for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, they forecast that the mercury in the thermometer will drop to more than minus five.
