The meeting with Prime Minister Duško Marković regarding the proposed economic measures to mitigate the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic was attended by former Minister of Finance and Prime Minister Igor Lukšić, professors of the State Faculty of Economics Gordana Đurović, Božo Mihailović, Anđelko Lojpur and Dean Nikola Milović, as well as one of the founders of the University "Donja Gorica" ​​Veselin Vukotić, and economist Vasilije Kostić.

The Government announced yesterday that they discussed the proposal of measures aimed at providing support to the economy, employed and socially vulnerable citizens, with a special emphasis on future activities for recovery and further development of the economy.

Professor Vukotić is the creator of the Montenegrin economic system and the founder of economic liberalism, i.e. the ideology of the free market in Montenegro.

The government is now consulting him, among other things, on state interventionism for the recovery of the economy through aid to the economy.

From the world's economic addresses these days, there are also messages that neoliberalism has been defeated in this crisis because it is shown that the market cannot function without the interference of the state.

"Eminent Montenegrin economists, at the Prime Minister's invitation, showed their willingness to help in full capacity with their suggestions and concrete proposals for the adoption of adequate measures aimed at faster recovery and the creation of an encouraging business environment as a prerequisite for further development," the Government announced.

The participants of the meeting fully supported the Government's economic measures, evaluating them as timely, measured and responsible. They also consider it positive that the measures are timely and precisely aimed at those who need support the most now, taking into account the sustainability of public finances.

It was pointed out that during the several-hour meeting with economists, medium- and long-term measures to encourage development and preserve the standards of citizens were discussed.

"The interlocutors agreed that in the coming period, the banking system and the Investment and Development Fund will play an important role in maintaining the liquidity of the real sector. The need for a vision of sustainable development in the future, based on science, innovation and digitization as the key prerequisites for further progress, was also noted." , they stated from the executive branch.

Prime Minister Marković said that the state is working hard to respond to the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic to Montenegro, as well as the whole world, and in order to preserve the health of citizens and enable a certain degree of economic activity and create the conditions for an adequate recovery of the Montenegrin economy.

"We appreciate your approach and suggestions for creating future measures that will encourage the development of the Montenegrin economy in a new and innovative way. This situation has shown us that our administration can be efficient, that we have quality in our institutions and that they are sustainable," Marković said, reports from the Government.

Yesterday's meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović, Minister of Finance Darko Radunović and Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić.
