The death of the dean of the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica, Dragan Lajović, stopped the idea of establishing and developing a social market economy, which today is the solution to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, announced the executive director of the Chamber of Crafts, Boris Marđonović.
Marđonović said that with the tragic death of Lajović on the way to Plovdiv, seven years ago, where he was supposed to participate in the establishment of a scientific network for the cooperation of the middle-class economy with the academic community, an important project for Montenegro was interrupted.
"It was about realizing the idea of establishing and developing a social market economy. Today, this topic is again very relevant and can represent a solution for getting out of the crisis", said Marđonović in the announcement.
The social market economy, as he explained, is the dominant macroeconomic model in the European Union (EU).
"The social market economy guarantees success to anyone who wants to take their destiny into their own hands, but not on the basis of origin, family income and connections, but on the basis of their own actions and results," said Marđonović.
According to him, it is considered that economic success and well-being in the social-market macroeconomic environment are brought by flexible and innovative companies through their innovations, variety of products, services and enthusiasm.
"That's why the tools of the social market economy, created by the state through conjunctural programs, are necessary", added Marđonović.
The principles of the social market economy are based on freedom, democracy, competition, subsidiarity, private ownership and solidarity.
Marđonović believes that the system of equal opportunities, free and fair market competition, growth, responsibility and rules are the key to getting out of all economic crises, including the one caused by the corona virus pandemic.
"After the Montenegrin experience with self-governing socialism, which failed, and then the neoliberal economy, which deepened the gap in society, today we recall the beginnings of the dialogue on the social market economy in Montenegro, because the principles of the social market economy are becoming relevant again in the corona crisis and overcoming its consequences", said Marđonović.
Marđonović reminded that it all started in December 2011 with a series of lectures on the world economic crisis and ways to overcome it, based on the example of Germany.
Lajović, who was then dean of the Faculty of Economics and president of the Board of Directors of the Investment and Development Fund (IRF), hosted experts from the Koblenz Chamber of Crafts at the Faculty of Economics, who presented the tools of the social market economy.
"Given the importance of this topic, we are publishing a brochure from all lectures, the printed version of which is in the library of the Faculty of Economics and the Chamber of Crafts," said Marđonović.
