The Directorate of Civil Aviation of Serbia informed Montenegro Airlines (MA) late today that the right to land planes of the Montenegrin national airline at the Belgrade airport "Nikola Tesla" is suspended, MA announced.
"Montenegro Airlines is facing a fight to connect Montenegro with airlines to all European destinations as quickly and as efficiently as possible, and we will be dedicated to that task. The industry in which we operate should not depend on political decisions. Regardless of this sudden decision by Belgrade, Serbia it certainly remains part of our traffic plans and we will try to contribute to the economic consequences of COVID-19 being remedied as soon as possible," said the MA statement.
The news about the ban on landing was previously unofficially confirmed by "Vijesti" apart from MA, and from the executive branch.
"Blic" announced earlier this evening that the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Serbia, on the basis of reciprocity, adopted a measure prohibiting the landing of MA planes at Belgrade's "Nikola Tesla" airport.
Yesterday, the Government of Montenegro announced the opening of Montenegrin borders for several countries, not including Serbia.
In the explanation of this decision, which "Blic" had access to, it is stated that since the mentioned measure is still in force, Serbian citizens are prevented from entering Montenegro.
"On the contrary, in accordance with the Decision on amendments to the Decision on declaring the disease COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus an infectious disease, the restrictions on the entry of foreign citizens, including citizens of Montenegro, into the Republic of Serbia have been removed. , the principle of reciprocity in the movement of passengers between the two countries is seriously violated, which directly affects the reciprocity in the performance of regular air transportation from Article 13, paragraph 1 of the Rulebook on the issuance of approval to foreign air carriers for the performance of international public air transportation with the Republic of Serbia, and that to the detriment of air carriers registered in the Republic of Serbia," the explanation states, as reported by the Serbian newspaper.
"Blic" also reported that a plane of "Montenegro Airlines" landed at the Belgrade airport tonight with 115 Montenegrin students, and as the decision of the Directorate, as stated by the newspaper, is valid from tomorrow, the students will be able to stay in Serbia.
Yesterday, a decision was made that Montenegro opens its borders to countries with a maximum of 25 active cases per 100.000 inhabitants, and the borders with Serbia are not open. This decision caused sharp reactions among Serbian politicians.
