Marković: Montenegro's income from tourism this year is estimated at 900 million euros

Prime Minister Duško Marković assessed today at the prime minister's hour that this year's tourist season was the most successful so far, that our airports broke records for the number of passengers transported, that there is huge interest in our tourism potential and that Montenegro's total income from tourism this year estimated at 900 million euros, which is more than the record season of 2016, and that with this our country has created an excellent basis to use its potential for tourism and overall development, which will be even more pronounced with the completion of the priority section of the road.

"The total contribution of tourism to employment in 2016 was 14,6%, i.e. about 27 thousand jobs. Projections are such that this year we expect an increase of 5,1%, while by 2027 an annual growth of 3,6 20,4% on average, which will provide a share of 2016% in total employment. 34%. According to the same source, until 2017, the estimated share of investment in tourism will grow at an average annual rate of 7,6%, which will make up 2027%, i.e. half of the total investments by the end of the next decade," said Marković in response to the question of Branimir Gvozdenović from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

Marković said that he agrees with the assessment from the parliamentary question that an excellent basis has been created - not only that year after year we reach the forecasts and projections of eminent international tourism organizations and institutions, but that we use our tourism potential in the direction of the overall development of Montenegro.

"I am pleased to state that this, the most successful tourist year to date, justified it. Namely, according to preliminary data, almost 2 million tourists stayed in Montenegro in the first ten months with almost 11,5 million overnight stays. The growth in the number of foreign tourists measures with double-digit growth rates of over 18%, and no less significant is the fact that the number of domestic tourists increased by nearly 8%. Montenegro's airports broke records this year, and for the first time in history, both airports served individually over a million passengers, with a total of close to 2 million and 200 thousand. This year there was also a strong interest in Montenegrin national parks. We highlight NP "Durmitor", which recorded a 42% increase in visits compared to the previous year, and NP "Biogradska gora" recorded is an increase of 39%," said Marković.

The Prime Minister also said that the Government is particularly committed to activities aimed at attracting foreign capital while continuously improving the business environment - primarily with the aim of new investments in those hotel facilities that correlate with the vision of Montenegro as a high-quality tourist destination.
