Millions still go to importing milk, cheese, meat, vegetables...

Last year, Montenegro imported food for 395 million euros, in contrast to 475 million in 2019, and the reason is that last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, about a million foreign tourists did not come, who would have eaten up that difference during their vacation.

Last year, an average of 1,1 million euros was spent on imported food per day, which is a large figure considering that there were practically no tourists.

Statistical data also show that in these conditions, Montenegro spent significant amounts of money on basic agricultural products that can be produced, and the most significant amounts came from neighboring countries.

Last year, according to the data of the Monstat Administration of Statistics, Montenegro imported regular and sour milk for 21,5 million euros, from Bosnia and Herzegovina for 13,5 million and Serbia for 6,1 million, followed by Croatia with 850 thousand , Germany with 434 thousand, North Macedonia with 120 thousand euros...

Cheese was imported for 12,4 million euros, of which 6,3 million from Germany, 860 million from Serbia, 646 thousand from Croatia, 598 thousand from Italy, 541 thousand from Slovenia, and XNUMX thousand from BiH.

1,1 million euros were spent on the import of eggs and they were all imported from only two countries - BiH for 602 thousand and from Serbia for 563 thousand.

Honey was imported for 552 thousand euros, from Serbia for 512 thousand and from North Macedonia for 40 thousand euros.

Last year, Montenegro imported fresh vegetables for 19,2 million euros, the most from Serbia for 5,5 million, Albania for 4,4 million, Turkey for 1,1 million, France for 840 thousand, Italy for 780 thousand, Spain for 659 thousand, North Macedonia for 554 thousand euros...

Tomatoes alone were imported from twenty countries, for a total of 4,1 million euros. Most of these vegetables were collected from Albania (1,8 million euros), Serbia (1,24 million), Macedonia (237 thousand), Italy (149 thousand), the Netherlands (145 thousand euros)...

Potatoes were imported for 2,86 million euros, mostly from the Netherlands - 820 thousand euros, France (815 thousand), Turkey (432 thousand), Serbia (415 thousand), BiH (200 thousand), Croatia (144 thousand), Albania (131 thousand)... Potatoes also arrived from Spain for 55 thousand, Luxembourg for 40 thousand, from Denmark for 30 thousand euros...

All types of onions were imported for two million euros, of which from the Netherlands for 620 thousand, Serbia (596 thousand), Albania (210 thousand), China (180 thousand), Egypt (150 thousand euros)...

Dry beans in grain were purchased for 1,3 million euros, the most from Kyrgyzstan for 441 thousand euros, followed by Canada with 266 thousand euros, Egypt with 154 thousand, Argentina with 151 thousand...

Cabbage was imported last year for 648 thousand euros, of which the most from Albania (167 thousand euros) and from Serbia (149 thousand euros), Spain (120 thousand euros), Italy (116 thousand), Poland (23 thousand), Germany (18 thousand), France (15 thousand euros)...

Montenegro imported carrots for one million euros, almost all of them from Serbia - 937 thousand euros and a smaller part from Italy - 55 thousand euros, and the Netherlands - 14,8 thousand... The import of cucumbers was worth 867 thousand euros, and the largest amount was acquired from Albania (584 thousand euros), Serbia (143 thousand), Italy (74 thousand euros)...

Last year, melons and watermelons were imported for 572 thousand euros, mostly from Albania (354 thousand), Greece (120 thousand), Turkey (19,5 thousand euros), and they also came from Brazil (18 thousand euros), Costa Rica (2,7 .1,1 thousand) and Honduras and Morocco (XNUMX thousand euros each).

Apples, pears and quinces were imported for 4,3 million euros. Most of those fruit trees, which are in the same statistical group, were bought from Serbia (1,14 million euros), Italy (979 thousand), North Macedonia (736 thousand), BiH (550 thousand), Poland (479 thousand), Albania (141 thousand euros)... They also came from South Africa for 64 thousand euros, Argentina for 60 thousand, Chile for 31 thousand...

Apricots, cherries, sour cherries and peaches were imported last year for two million euros, and by far the most from Serbia - 1,27 million euros, followed by Greece with 333 thousand, Albania with 198 thousand, Spain with 95 thousand...

Meat guild - 71 million euros

Last year, live cattle for breeding and the meat industry were imported for 21 million euros, of which almost all of them came from Serbia - 19,2 million euros, and were supplied from Croatia for 1,8 million euros, from Austria for 90 thousand and from Romania for 13,8 .XNUMX thousand euros.

Live pigs were imported for only 483 euros because a total or partial ban was in effect from many countries due to African swine fever. They were imported from BiH for 456 thousand euros, from Croatia for 21 thousand and from Serbia for 6,5 thousand euros. In previous years, the import of live pigs was up to three times higher.

Live sheep and goats were imported for one and a half million euros, from Serbia for 1,4 million and from the Netherlands for 72 thousand.

Live poultry (chickens, hens, turkeys, ducks...) was imported for 1,14 million euros, mostly from Serbia (834 thousand euros), BiH (122 thousand), Slovakia (106 thousand), Bulgaria (80 thousand euros)...

Fresh or frozen meat was imported for 71 million euros. Most from the Netherlands - 15,6 million, Germany (15,3 million), Spain (10,1 million), Serbia (7,7 million), Hungary (4,9 million), Austria (4,5 million), BiH (3 million), Brazil (2,8 million euros)...

Fresh and frozen beef was imported for 11 million euros, of which 5,9 million from the Netherlands, Serbia (two million), Brazil (one and a half million euros)... but also New Zealand (250 thousand), as well as in quantities of several thousand euros each from Australia, Ireland, Japan...

Pork meat was imported for 44,8 million euros, the most from Germany - 15 million, Spain (10 million), the Netherlands (9,4 million), Hungary (4,8 million), Austria (3,9 million), Belgium (1,5 million)...

Fresh or frozen meat from sheep and goats was imported for only 254 thousand euros, of which from North Macedonia for 170 thousand euros, from Serbia for 70 thousand, from New Zealand for 9,7 thousand, from Great Britain for 3,5 thousand, of the Netherlands for 1,8 thousand and for only 94 euros, meat from Ireland was bought. Poultry (chicken) meat was imported for 13 million euros, the most from Serbia for 5,2 million, from Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2,7 million, Brazil for 1,4 million, Croatia for 1,1 million, Ukraine for 971 thousand, Slovakia for 596 thousands...

Water from Serbia, salt from Germany, olive oil from Italy...

Last year, Montenegro paid 6,4 million euros for the import of ordinary bottled and mineral water. The most water was purchased from Serbia (5,8 million euros), Slovenia (131 thousand), Italy (123 thousand), Bosnia and Herzegovina (106 thousand), France (103 thousand) and Croatia (65 thousand euros).

Montenegro is the only Mediterranean country that does not produce salt, so last year it spent 1,24 million euros on imports. Salt was imported from as many as 32 countries, mostly from Germany (193 thousand), Egypt (192 thousand), Austria (146 thousand), Serbia (145 thousand), Albania (132 thousand), BiH (115 thousand), the Netherlands (85 thousand), Turkey (65 thousand euros)...

Last year, olive oil was imported for 1,1 million euros, and the most convincing was from Italy - 900 hijads. Olive oil was imported from Spain for 32 thousand euros, from Albania for 30 thousand, Greece for 26 thousand... Even olive oil was imported from Germany - for 1,4 thousand and from Serbia - for 613 euros.
