In the coming period, the Chambers of Commerce of Montenegro and Romania can significantly contribute to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, primarily in the area of improving trade and connecting companies.

The Presidents of the Montenegrin and Romanian Chambers of Commerce, Vlastimir Golubović and Mihai Daraban, agreed today at an online meeting to harmonize the cooperation agreement between the two associations, which will be signed when the epidemiological circumstances permit.

Golubović recalled the very good interstate relations with Romania and thanked it for its support for the European integration of Montenegro.

As announced by PKCG, he presented the macroeconomic indicators of Montenegro, which until the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic were among the most relevant in Europe.

"We expect 50 percent of our population to be vaccinated by the end of May, which will be a prerequisite for being a safe tourist destination." I invite tourists from Romania to spend part of their vacation in Montenegro," added Golubović.

At the meeting, it was assessed that there is room for improvement of trade, which last year amounted to between 30 and 43 million euros, with insignificant exports from Montenegro, of only 1,2 million euros.

"It is also necessary to work on connecting IT companies, bearing in mind that Romania is a leader in that area, in order to consider the possibilities of joint production of software and IT services in Montenegro," announced PKCG.

Romania's experiences in the field of digital transformation, it added, can be very useful for Montenegro, which is facing this process.

Golubović announced that Montenegro, with the commissioning of the energy cable to Italy, has become an important energy hub in the region.

He called on Romanian energy companies to direct their eventual needs to that corridor.

Daraban assessed that there is a lot of room for the chambers to contribute to an even stronger economic cooperation through efficient operation.

He recognized the need to organize a business forum within the framework of mutual visits of the state and economic delegations of Romania and Montenegro.

"It is very important to organize an official visit of the Montenegrin delegation, together with representatives of the economy, as soon as possible. In addition, starting today, we should work on establishing a direct airline from Romania to Podgorica and Tivat," the meeting concluded.
