"Bajo Sekulić" Saltworks should be managed by the Municipality of Ulcinj, said Fatmir Đeka, deputy of the Albanian coalition "Jednoglasno" and president of the Democratic Party.
After it was announced from JP "National Parks of Montenegro" that from August 23, they will no longer manage the area of the Solana, said Đeka, as the only way out of that situation is the solution that the local self-government manages that area on the territory of the municipality of Ulcinj.
"This is necessary also because, by the decision of our parliament, Solana was declared a Nature Park in June 2019. Also, our obligation was to form a company that will manage Solana, which has not yet been done and must be done urgently. Especially after that the Privatization Council recently concluded that the Solana area is state-owned," said Đeka in a press release.
He said that he believes that the Municipality of Ulcinj can secure funds for the maintenance of biodiversity and guard service with the support of the Government and other institutions.
"Former employees of the Saltworks, representatives of non-governmental organizations, many friends of the Saltworks in Europe and the world, will help and support us. The fact that the German government has expressed its willingness to invest in the restoration of salt production and the preservation of the economic resort at the Saltworks is certainly pleasing. The Municipality of Ulcinj manages this space of ours, it imposes itself and we have to do it. Of course, we should insist on this in discussions with the Government, said Đeka in the announcement.
