The newly elected president of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, Vojin Žugić, will not take over the position on September 1, when his mandate should have started, but will resign then, "Vijesti" has learned.
According to unofficial information, Žugić told his associates that he realized that he would not be able to achieve quality cooperation with the new government, that he had problems communicating with some of his associates, as well as that all of this would take a lot of his energy and that he would not have time for his private business. with the company "Stadion".
Žugić neither confirmed nor denied the knowledge of "Vijesti" that he had announced his resignation, answering that he would address the public today. He was elected as the president of PKCG at the Assembly on July 29, after Vlastimir Golubović had previously resigned from that position. With his resignation, Golubović limited his mandate to August 31, so Žugić was supposed to start presiding on September 1.
When Žugić announced that he would not accept the position, the PKCG administration realized that its Statute did not define such a situation, that is, that from September 1, no one could manage the Chamber because the existing Statute defined that the mandate of the vice-presidents expires when the president's mandate expires. Therefore, on Friday, at the extraordinary Assembly of the PKCG, held electronically, an amendment to the statute was adopted, according to which one of the vice-presidents will take over that position until the elections for the president are organized again. The decision to amend the PKCG Statute was published on the same day in the Official Gazette.
The amendment stipulates that in the event of termination of the mandate "until the election of the president of the Chamber, the acting function is performed by the vice president of the Chamber who manages the work of the Sector for Associations", and in this case it is the vice president Nina Drakić. The second vice president is Pavle Radovanović.
The amendment to the Statute stipulates that the Management Board, in the event of termination of the president's mandate (resignation and other reasons), initiates the procedure for the election of a new president within 60 days. The section on the term of office of the vice-presidents and general secretary has also been changed, so that they will perform their functions until the election of a new president of the PKCG.
According to "Vijesti" information, Žugić will resign immediately on September 1, after which Vice President Drakić will take over the presidency, and the Board of Directors will start the procedure for electing a new president.
At the PKCG Assembly on July 29, Žugić received 28 votes out of 51 votes, while the executive director of the company "Coca Cola HBC Montenegro" and the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro Nikola Tripković received 22 votes, and economist Srđan Pupovac received one.
DPS lost another battle?
Žugić was considered a candidate of the hard current of the former government led by DPS, which intended to retain part of its influence through the Chamber of Commerce and use it to criticize the new government.
After his election, Žugić had a more conciliatory tone. In an interview with "Vijesta", he said that the Government and the Chamber of Commerce are natural partners, aimed at the same goal, which is to ensure sustainable economic growth, which is a prerequisite for the well-being of society and the state as a whole.
"The roles are clear, and success is guaranteed through synergistic action. I am absolutely sure that both the Chamber and the Government will work on further improvement of cooperation in the period ahead of us. There are numerous challenges before us, and we can only get quality answers to them through partnership, to which both the Law and previous good practice point us. In the previous months, a lot of joint activities were launched, several important gatherings are planned for the coming months, and I expect them to gain momentum from September," said Žugić at the end of July.
Now both options will start a new campaign.
