Montenegro can be a very interesting destination for tourists from Sri Lanka, not only during the summer but also in the winter months, given the great potential for the development of that type of tourism, announced the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG).
PKCG said that the Acting President of the Chamber, Nina Drakić, met with Sri Lankan Ambassador Manori Unambuwe.
"Our citizens like to experience Europe and Montenegro can be a new experience for tourists from Sri Lanka. Montenegro has a lot to offer, considering the small distance of the mountain centers from the sea. We need to connect the tour operators of our two countries in order to establish concrete cooperation ", said Unambuwe.
She added that, considering the importance of tourism in both countries, there is also the possibility of exchanging "know how" between businessmen in that area.
The interlocutors agreed that there is room for establishing cooperation between companies in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Information technologies are highly developed in Sri Lanka and are currently working to promote the country as a destination for digital nomads.
Drakić announced that Montenegro is now entering the process of digital transformation.
"I think the moment is right for cooperation and connecting our ICT sector with other countries," said Drakić.
Unambuwe highlighted the importance of the textile industry in Sri Lanka as well as the production of coconut products, adding that they are represented in some of the most important high end markets.
"Our textile producers often want to bring their plants closer to their target markets, so this can be an opportunity for Montenegro to attract companies that export to the European Union (EU)," Unambuwe said, adding that a significant advantage for this is the connection through the Port of Bar.
Unambu was interested in the cost competitiveness of Montenegrin workers compared to Europeans, tax benefits for investors, as well as business in free and business zones.
The interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to develop cooperation between chambers of commerce and organize an online meeting of businessmen from the two countries during which economic potentials and opportunities for partnerships on specific projects would be presented.
The Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Montenegro, Nenad Rakočević, also participated in the meeting.
He sees the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries in organic agricultural production, stressing that Sri Lanka is a producer of organic fertilizers that are not represented here.
