The family of Serbian businessmen Karić, whose representatives were in Herceg Novi a month ago, is interested in building a condo hotel in the Savina settlement, "Vijesti" learned from sources close to the family.
Karići would build the hotel on an urban plot of over 6.500 square meters where there used to be a trade union resort EI Niš. They bought that plot in the early nineties, and at that time they planned to build a 10.000 square meter hotel from the Marriott chain. The municipal services first gave Karić the conditions for construction, and then made a decision on the creation of the DUP "Šetališta pet Danica" within which Karić's plot was to be defined.
From the local administration, "The news was told that there is currently no planning document according to which, according to the new Law on Spatial Planning and Building Construction, urban-technical conditions could be issued, and then construction of the building could begin.
Five years ago, the Karici informally asked the then local government to repurpose the plot and to approve the construction of apartments and apartments for the market instead of a hotel, but they did not receive approval. That they do not intend to give up building apartments for the market is evidenced by their intention to build a condo hotel, which basically has privately owned apartments that investors sell, and the owners later rent during the season with the help of investors.
The land in Savina and Topla and the property in Tivat were sold by Karić in August 2010 after the High Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade filed an indictment against Bogoljub and Sreten Karić and 14 other people suspected of damaging Mobtel for more than 60 million euros.
Then the Serbian authorities announced the possibility that their valuable property in Serbia and abroad could be confiscated. Bogoljub, Sreten, Dragomir and Zoran Karić and their sister Olivera Nedeljković then promptly sold a plot of land on Savina for around one million euros to the company "Dana - CG" from Herceg Novi.
Well-versed in the political and economic relations in the region then claimed that it was a fictitious sale, that is, a purchase through offshore companies owned by Karić, which was indicated by the relatively low price for which the property was sold.
Due to the lack of evidence, the Interpol warrant for Bogoljub Karić, issued while he was abroad, was withdrawn at the end of last year. After that, they increased their interest in construction in Herceg Novi, which supports the claim that the change of ownership was only fictitious.
Before the beginning of the tourist season, Karići received permits and should soon continue the construction of a semi-detached family residential building with a swimming pool and business premises on Topla next to the city museum. They started construction in June 2009 on a plot of land purchased a few years earlier.
