Montenegro's airports will be "green" in the future and will have their own representative at the meetings of all the working committees of the Airports Council International, and the Tivat airport could soon become a test site for taxi drones, it was discussed in Brussels.
The executive director of the Airport of Montenegro, Goran Jandreoski, said that the meeting of the Montenegrin delegation with the executive director of ACI, Oliver Jankovec, his deputy and the heads of various working groups in that organization was very successful.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Capital Investments Zoran Radunović, Milica Mićunović from that Ministry, as well as Deputy Executive Director Petar Radulović met with them.
After the meeting, Jandreoski pointed out that from now on, for the first time, Montenegro will have its representatives in the working committees of the ACI in charge of creating policies, the committee for finance, economic environment and sustainability, the security and technical committee.
"We have agreed with Jankovec and his associates that the ACG, in cooperation with the line ministry, will propose representatives in those working committees, which is more than a good opportunity to give them the opportunity to be regularly informed about all developments related to airports," Jandreoski said. .
He added that the greater part of the meeting was devoted to the discussion related to Montenegrin airports, the state of civil aviation, different scenarios for the recovery of aviation, but also that they discussed ACI's predictions for the return of air traffic.
"We also received instructions on how to apply for the Airport Zero Carbon Footprint project and how to start the certification process. The road to a 'green' airport has six stages, during which we have to fulfill certain conditions, most of which do not represent a financial burden for ACG, but refers to obliging the airport to fulfill the conditions, but also to the support of the state for such a decision", said Jandreoski.
The Montenegrin delegation informed the hosts from Brussels that the local airports, with the support of the relevant ministry, are ready to be part of the latest project led by ACI, Eurocontrol and ICAO - Urban mobility, and ACI promised to negotiate on behalf of the Airports of Montenegro with companies that could bring taxi drones to local airports.
Jandreoski said that taxi drones are the ultimate, most modern solution for transporting passengers on shorter destinations.
"I witnessed this in 2016 in Singapore. In Brussels, we 'opened' the door for it to appear in Montenegro as well, although, for now, the only airports where this type of transport is available are - Charles de Gaulle in Paris, within the ADP group, and Milan Malpensa. Our partners from ACI have promised to negotiate with companies that have this kind of innovation, so that we can also be included in the process," said Jandreoski.
He assessed that taxi drones are the future, because they will enable, due to the congestion on the roads, to transport passengers by air in shorter destinations. One of the leaders in this business is the German company Volocopter, which offers taxi drones for transporting passengers from point A to point B.
"We offered our hosts at ACI to consider the option of Tivat Airport, in the off-season, being a test facility for such companies and presented that they could test this type of passenger transportation, say from the runway to Luštica, Porto Montenegro, Portonovo, because in those locations there are heliports registered with the Civil Aviation Agency. It is very important that they saw that we have the support of the Ministry of Capital Investments in all of this," said Jandreoski.
ACI represents the collective interests of airports worldwide and promotes professional excellence and efficiency.
Since this fall, Montenegro has had its representative on the Board of that organization for the first time, which for the country represents a great success but also an obligation - Jandreoski was elected as a member of the ACI Board at the session of the General Assembly held in Geneva on October 26.
