During 2021, the Ministry of Capital Investments faced a large number of requests for free access to information (FOI), of which 195 were submitted during 2021 alone, while 26 of them were inherited from previous years, the department announced.

"Determined to meet all applicants, the Ministry of Capital Investments processed a total of 2021 applications in 192, while 29 of them are still in the process," according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

They said that during 2020, the then Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs received a total of 82 requests based on SPI, of which 44 were answered.

"Of the total processed requests, the Ministry of Capital Investments allowed access for 94 of them, 7 were partially adopted, 21 were rejected (possible reasons were lack of information, creation of new information, etc.), 39 requests were forwarded to other authorities due to lack of competence and on the 18th, a notification was sent that the documentation can be viewed on the authority's website," the statement added.

The largest number of requests were sent to the Directorate for State Roads (68), then to the Directorate for Energy (57), followed by the Secretariat of the Ministry (37), the Directorate for Mining (24) and the Directorate for Maritime Transport (13), while the fewest requests were sent Directorates for air (10), road (8) and rail traffic (4).

As for the applicants, most of them came from the NGO MANS, a total of 115, of which 100 were answered, while 15 are in the procedure. "This is followed by the NGO Action for Social Justice with 15 requests (answered to 14), then CRNVO, which answered all 5 submitted requests, and the Center for Civic Education with 5 requests (answered to 4)", according to the MKI.

The department also said that during this year they will continue to act responsibly on requests based on the Law on Free Access to Information, respecting the need of the public, the NGO sector, business entities and citizens to receive accurate information regarding topics within their jurisdiction.
