We are still learning about the importance of open data

There is not yet a sufficiently developed awareness of the potential of open data, and open data can stimulate innovations that will benefit citizens, the public sector, business and science.

This, among other things, was ordered yesterday from the workshop "Open data for an open Podgorica - Smart City" organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the Capital City of Podgorica.

"Open data, with the possibility of download, distribution, adaptation, connection with other data, can be integrated into business processes, products and services, thereby creating added value following the guidelines of the digital transformation process. Also, open data, as well as related open data, encourage innovation in the creation of commercial and non-commercial applications, in the service of the public, private, scientific and civil sectors," she said. Nada Rakočević, secretary of the Board of the Association of Information and Communication Technologies PKCG.

"Open data" represents the concept of publicly available data in such a way that any person can freely use and publish it, without author restrictions or other control mechanisms. The term "open data" has been used since 2008 and is gaining popularity after the initiative of individual countries to open their data.

Open data can be postal codes, national and local maps, data on cultural works and artefacts, financial and statistical data, environmental data, traffic data, such as public transport timetable data, information on road works... In open data also includes data on companies...

As some of the services that are available to citizens of the capital, based on open data sets, is e.g. map on the portal podgorica.me, where important projects of the Capital City are presented.

At the national level, open data of institutions is available to some extent on the portal data.gov.me.
