The Society of Professional Journalists (DPN) called on public officials to treat journalists correctly, not to humiliate them and prevent them from working.
The director of the Revenue and Customs Administration, Milena Petričević, behaved inappropriately towards "Vijesti" journalist Goran Kapor today, for writing about the extension of the license for games of chance and her dispute with the Minister of Finance and Social Care, Milojko Spajić.
"The director also showed disrespect towards all the reporters, whom she invited to the press conference to announce what she planned, after which she refused to answer questions. Petričević also shared with her colleagues at the press conference a copy of the front page of Vijesti, on which there was an announcement the text of his colleague Kapor and his correspondence with the Administration. This attitude towards journalists is shameful and unacceptable. Public servants are in these positions for the sake of citizens and are obliged to give explanations to journalists, so that they can inform the public," the statement said.
The Association of Professional Journalists states that in this case, two million euros of money that should or should not belong to the state budget, and which are allegedly owed by two controversial businessmen, are at stake.
"Thus, there is a high public interest in the case. This, as well as the case of the tourism inspector who reported the editor of Pobjeda for publishing footage of illegal parking, show ignorance of the role of the media and the irresponsibility of certain public officials towards citizens and the media that report on them," the statement said. .
