In ten years, Montenegro will be one of the most prestigious tourist, investment and business destinations in Europe and a society with a much higher standard of population than it is today, assessed Prime Minister Duško Marković.
In an interview for Global Citizen, he said that in the future, in ten years, Montenegro will certainly be a country of peace and stability, which will essentially, and not just geographically, belong to the world of the most developed countries.
"We are focused on the future, investments, raising the standards of citizens, reaching Western values and positioning Montenegro in its rightful place as an old European country. And that's why we are specific in the region," said Marković.
He stated, as reported by the Government Public Relations Service, that the executive power managed to record economic growth among the five leaders in Europe, that it consolidated public finances, improved the business environment and earned positive evaluations from international financial organizations.
Marković added that Montenegro is the only one in the region constitutionally founded as a civil state and that they are proud of the multi-ethnic and multi-confessional harmony they inherit.
"On what do I base this conviction? On the fact that in the years immediately after the restoration of independence, i.e. in the period after 2006, Montenegro recorded a record growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in Europe and one of the highest in the world," said Marković.
According to him, the global crisis interrupted that progress, but this year a new phase of takeoff began.
"About 50 years ago, the biggest stars of the world's jet set, such as Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, came to vacation in Montenegro. They were welcomed by the then president of Yugoslavia, Tito, who had a summer house here and today it is preserved in its original ambience. We are returning Montenegro to its old glory and enriching it with new content," said Marković.
He stated that in the past ten years of independence, they have turned the former country of typical socialist resorts into a recognizable and prestigious destination.
"Now, when we have completed major state projects - the restoration of independence and membership in NATO, when it is certain that Montenegro will be the first member of the European Union (EU) - we are turning to development and internal reforms that will launch us into the world elite. Montenegro is the country in this region where the biggest changes have taken place in the past decades. We are continuing at that pace", announced Marković.
He believes that the biggest challenge, not only for Montenegro but also for the region, is the economic gap between those countries and highly developed European countries, as well as the lack of knowledge.
Marković said that he believes that the world that will be inherited by future generations will be better than today's.
"I consider our ability to recognize the biggest global challenges in time and our willingness to respond to these challenges to be key. On the other hand, the pace and intensity of changes indicate that we must be more efficient in recognizing and addressing challenges. If we manage to preserve nature - we will succeed," concluded Marković.
