Every year, Montenegro records an increase in the number of tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), which additionally obliges to work more intensively on improving, first of all, the road infrastructure, said the Deputy Prime Minister for Regional Development and Minister of Capital Investments, Ervin Ibrahimović.
"In this sense, the most important project on which we must work together is the road route through Šćepan Polje. We have been talking about this project for years, the reconstruction of which requires significant funds on the territory of both countries. I believe that it is one of the priorities of cooperation between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina." Ibrahimovic said.
As announced by the Ministry, today he met with the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović.
Ibrahimović said that the meeting was a confirmation of the good bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing to the fact that there are no open issues between BiH and Montenegro, but also that there are projects that have been on the agenda of the two countries' talks for a long time and that it is necessary to work more strongly on their realization.
Mitrović confirmed that good relations and cooperation between the institutions of the two countries enable faster action towards the realization of projects of mutual interest.
"Citizens who gravitate to this area expect the road route through Šćepan polje to be revitalized and modernized, since this area has a huge potential for tourism development and in this sense the road infrastructure must provide a faster, safer and more comfortable flow of people and cargo," Mitrović said.
He informed Ibrahimović about the activities that Bosnia and Herzegovina has undertaken so far when it comes to that travel direction, but also about the dynamics of the next steps they intend to take.
Ibrahimović and Mitrović also discussed another regional project, namely the revitalization and modernization of the railway line Nikšić-Trebinje-Čapljina, for which there are basic assumptions and inputs, because a feasibility study has been done that can be an initial step towards further realization.
"Keeping in mind the growing number of tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina who visit Montenegro especially in the summer tourist season, the meeting also discussed the possibilities and needs of establishing flights on the Montenegro-BiH route," the statement added.
Ibrahimović and Mitrović agreed that it is necessary to work on the formation of work teams from the relevant ministries, as well as the need to meet soon and discuss in more detail the next steps towards the implementation of the projects discussed today.
