CGO: Government to cancel the economic citizenship program even before the deadline

On the occasion of the Prime Minister Dritan Abazović's announcement that the Economic Citizenship Program will not be extended after December 31 this year, the Center for Civic Education (CEO) pointed out that "it is necessary that the Government of Montenegro, which declares itself reformist and pro-European, does everything to make this the program will be canceled even before the expiration of that period".

CGO on Twitter reminds that the EU in its documents, but also through the statements of officials, continuously warns about the negative effects of this program and expects it to be stopped immediately.

"This is also indicated by the evaluations from the latest Unofficial document on the state of the rule of law, which should worry the current government," adds CGO.

They state that "bearing in mind that every request submitted until the official cancellation of the program would have to be dealt with in accordance with the then valid rules, there is no obstacle to the cancellation being implemented".

"And the announcement that it won't happen soon is also an invitation to new, often controversial, investors," CGO concludes.
