Montenegro has good results in the reform of the energy sector, assessed the Minister of Capital Investments Ervin Ibrahimović, stating that the Government is firmly committed to implementing a green energy transition, in accordance with the European Green Deal.
As announced by the Ministry of Capital Investments, Ibrahimović and State Secretary Admir Šahmanović met with the Director of the Energy Community (EC), Artur Lorkowski.
"The discussion focused on Montenegro's progress in the transposition of the EU clean energy package, the strategy of gradually phasing out coal, renewable energy and the current situation on the energy market," the statement said.
Ibrahimović said that Montenegro has good results in energy sector reforms, and that it is one of the best in this field in the EC.
"Despite the challenges in energy supply, the Government is firmly committed to implementing a green energy transition in accordance with the European Green Deal. We greatly appreciate the support of the Secretariat, which helps us to turn the challenges of the energy transition into opportunities," said Ibrahimovića.
According to reports, Lorkovski highlighted priorities at the EC level, including the adoption of energy and climate goals for 2030 and the implementation of the measures of the Decarbonization Map.
He assessed that today's meeting was very productive.
"We had the opportunity to exchange information and discuss Montenegro's progress in the green energy transition process and discuss open issues with the ministry and key actors in the energy sector, including how to ensure compliance with the Industrial Emissions Directive," said Lorkovski.
According to him, they identified the measures that are necessary for the energy transition in Montenegro, and especially in the coal region, to be successful.
According to the Ministry, during the visit, Lorkowski met with the management of key energy companies, including the Regulatory Agency for Energy and Regulated Utilities, the Montenegrin Electricity Exchange, Elektroprivreda, the Montenegrin Electric Distribution System, the Montenegrin Electricity Market Operator and the Montenegrin Electric Transmission System.
