"Out of the total value of the minimum consumer basket, expenditures for food and non-alcoholic beverages amounted to 339,8 euros, which is 1,5 percent more than in April," the announcement states.
Statisticians said that expenditures for non-food products and services amounted to 399,1 euros, which is 0,4 percent more than in April.
The minimum consumption basket refers to household consumption that includes food and non-food products and services, which enables the maintenance of life and working abilities of household members.
The minimum consumer basket is in accordance with the minimum recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nutrition Manual of the United States Department of Agriculture in 2010 (USDA Food Guide 2010) on the minimum caloric value of food intake in the amount of 2,21 thousand calories per day per person .
"The value of the minimum consumer basket is based on household consumption survey data and World Bank (WB) recommendations. The value of the minimum consumer basket for a household of four consists of minimum monthly expenses related to food and non-alcoholic beverages and non-food products and services," said Monstat.
Average prices in the current month and monthly quantities in kilograms for a household of four are used to calculate the minimum expenses related to food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Consumer price indexes (CPI) are used to calculate the value of a basket of non-food products and services.
