The beekeeping sector in Montenegro has great potential for development, which needs to be further strengthened through the exchange of experiences and the use of modern achievements and technologies.
This was announced after the meeting of Prince Nikola Petrović Njegoš with State Secretary Budimir Mugoš at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
As stated in the press release of this government department, Prince Nikola Petrović Njegoš expressed the interest of the "Petrović Njegoš" foundation to establish a conservatory for the preservation of genetic resources in beekeeping in Montenegro.
He expressed, they added in the announcement, his readiness to provide all the necessary expert and technical assistance in order to preserve and valorize the products and improve the beekeeping sector in Montenegro.
"Given that the honey bee belonging to the Carniola bee race Apis mellifera Carnica is grown on the territory of Montenegro, and in accordance with the Law on Animal Husbandry, the genetic diversity of the Carniola bee must be preserved, Prince Nikola presented the project 'Conservatory for the preservation of the Montenegrin bee' which would be jointly implemented in cooperation with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation," the announcement states.
It is concluded that the next meeting with the relevant experts in the field of bee selection has been agreed, in order to define further activities and contribute to the further affirmation of raising awareness about the importance of bees in Montenegro.
