The Committee for Economy, Finance and Budget decided today to hold a consultative hearing regarding the cancellation of the privilege for yacht owners to pay for cheaper fuel.

That initiative was initiated by the deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Petar Ivanović, who is also an adviser to the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović.

The decision to abolish this privilege was made by the Government at the proposal of the Minister of Finance, Aleksandar Damjanović.

Ivanović explained his initiative by saying that the data he has shows that the state is losing revenue on that basis and that some companies that were in that business have already closed their operations in Montenegro.

Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanović and business representatives involved in the yachting business will be invited to the hearing.

Democratic Front (DF) MP Dejan Đurović reiterated that it is unacceptable for citizens to pay more expensive fuel than yacht owners.

He also announced that he will launch an initiative to abolish the privileges of yachtsmen when it comes to value added tax (VAT) on food and drinks.

The exact date of the session, which will be held in September, will be determined later.
