The President of the Board of Directors of Rudnik Uglja Dušan Janjušević will propose to the members of the Board of Directors to make a decision on a subsidy of 30 percent on the new price of coal, for all socially vulnerable categories of citizens of Pljevlja.

"Taking into account that the new coal price list for the citizens of Pljevlja, which was established by the executive management of the Coal Mine, affected socially vulnerable categories of citizens, and that there is a danger of a drop in demand and the transition to household heating with electricity, at the first following session I will propose that the Board of Directors of the company adopt the decision on subsidies of 30 percent on the current price of coal until November 1 this year," announced Janjušević.

He believes that such a proposal is in everyone's interest due to the increased need for saving electricity as a result of the global energy crisis. The proposal, he points out, also corresponds with the decisions of the parent company EPCG, which last year gave quarterly discounts of 40 percent on electricity bills to precisely these categories of the population.

From September 1st, Pljevlja Coal Mine increased the price of coal for the citizens of Pljevlja by over 35 percent. Instead of the previous 64 euros per ton, the people of Pljevlja pay 87 euros for the same amount of coal.

As of August 15, the price of one ton of coal for customers who do not reside in the municipality of Pljevlja is 105 euros.

A large number of Pljevlja residents failed to buy coal at the old prices in the past few days, although some have been waiting for delivery for more than a month. The increase in prices caused a huge outcry from citizens, especially pensioners and those who failed to buy coal at the old prices in the previous days.

"By decision, the Board of Directors would order the executive director to ensure the procedural implementation of the subsidy with a certificate of unemployment from the Employment Office, a certificate of pension lower than 222 euros or a certificate that it is in the register of the center for social work. According to my proposal, this subsidy could be used by one household based on the request of the owner of a facility that is in the socially vulnerable category, and the amount would be limited to a maximum of five tons. I believe that this decision is necessary not only from the point of view of citizens and the company's social responsibility, but also for the reason of reducing the impact of the increase in electricity consumption for heating households. I expect the unanimous support of my colleagues from the Board of Directors for this proposal", said Janjušević.

Until September 1, citizens of Pljevlja could buy coal at a preferential price of 64 euros including VAT and excise duty. This price referred to a large assortment, i.e. pieces and cubes, and citizens could buy up to five tons of coal with an attached copy of their personal tickets.

Rudnik points out that the huge disruptions in energy prices on the world market led to an increase in the cost of coal production. This is why there were two price increases this year, from which the citizens of Pljevlja were exempted.
