Workers of Željezara: Ibrahimović to immediately allow EPCG to go public with shares

The workers of Nikšića Željezara Tosčelik called on the Minister of Capital Investments, Ervin Ibrahimović, to immediately allow Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) to go public with shares and show, as they said, responsibility towards citizens and workers.

"Let him show that he is on the side of the citizens of this country, not on the side of the Turkish investor. This is a chance to show who is on whose side in this country. We have guarantees from Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Minister of Finance Aleksandar Damjanović that they are on the side of the workers and "yes, as far as they are concerned, there are no problems with the actions and everything else related to the takeover of Željezara. As he pointed out, the workers are asking Minister Ibrahimović to show declarative support for the workers by allowing EPCG to go public with shares.

EPCG already went public with the mentioned shares, but there were no interested buyers.

The workers received a promise from the Prime Minister that the state will buy those shares, and the deadline for their listing is September 26.

"The workers and their children expect that from him. We hope that the workers' children will not have to spend their time after school with their fathers and mothers on the streets and at protests," said Vujović.

Last weekend, the workers organized a rally "To save the Željezara" in front of the factory, and their families were with them.

The protests started three months ago when the employer announced that 229 production workers would lose their jobs.

The resignations were handed to them, and the payment of severance payments began, even though EPCG requested from Tosčelik that the workers receive wages for another two months, and that these wages be deducted from their severance payments.

As the union said at the time, he accepted the offer as his own, but after two hours he started paying the severance pay.

"The workers are still on the roof of the factory, and their families are waiting and hoping that the situation with the factory, which fed 230 families, will be resolved as soon as possible, families that have been left without their main source of income, and some without their only source of income," the president pointed out.
