The Democratic Front (DF) will propose changes to the Central Bank Law so that all citizens who meet the legal requirements have the right to run for the position of governor.
This was announced by DF deputy Dejan Đurović in the show "Reflektor" on TV Vijesti tonight.
He explained that the changes will define that, instead of the president, the Assembly, i.e. the Committee for Economy, Finance and Budget, will carry out the procedure for electing the governor.
Đurović said that this solution would be a democratic step forward and that every citizen who meets the conditions can run for office.
He cited the example of Croatia, which is a member of the European Union, where the governor is elected in the parliament.
"This is how we remove politics from the election of the governor of the CBCG and anyone who meets the conditions can run," Đurović pointed out.
He said that he expects the support of his colleagues from the parliamentary majority from August 30, 2020 for the proposal that will enter the parliamentary procedure, in order to reach a candidate for governor who is not politically colored.
According to the current law in the CBCG, the candidate for governor is nominated by the president of the state.
In the parliamentary procedure, the proposal of President Milo Đukanović to re-elect Radoje Žugić to that position, whose mandate in that position expired on October 14, is now in the parliamentary procedure.
In order for Đukanović's proposal not to pass in the parliament, all members of the parliamentary majority must be in the hall when the vote is taken from August 30, 2020, because the governor is elected by a simple majority. That parliamentary majority publicly promised not to support the election of Žugić.
