In Montenegro, the revenue side can be strengthened by expanding the tax scope, and a possible measure could be the expansion of the scope of taxation of sugar products, assessed the Minister of Finance Aleksandar Damjanović and the head of the World Bank (WB) Office, Christopher Sheldon.
Damjanović held a working meeting with the SB team, led by Sheldon, and the leading topics were the sustainability of the macroeconomic framework and the achievement of significant fiscal support through a detailed program of reforms.
"Possible mechanisms were discussed through which greater economic growth, competitiveness on the market would be achieved, all while taking into account environmental protection," the Ministry announced.
Damjanović said that the intention is to achieve a long-term stabilization of the deficit, but also to gradually return the reduction of the excise tax on fuel, as well as to speed up the excise calendar for tobacco.
The mission of the SB was announced, which will be dedicated to the finalization of the project of trade and transport facilities.
As part of the project, special programs have been defined, the final list of which will be financed through formal negotiations between the two parties, as expected, by the end of the year.
"The meeting is a continuation of the regular dialogue and close cooperation that the Ministry has with that credible financial institution and the need to harmonize the partnership framework for contracting a loan based on public policies (DPL arrangement)," the announcement concludes.
