Abazović: The economic citizenship program has brought numerous benefits

The program of economic citizenship has brought numerous benefits, whereby 70 million euros of direct payments to the budget cannot be disputed, as well as over 300 million indirect payments in the previous period, announced Prime Minister Dritan Abazović.

He told journalists after the European prayer breakfast in Brussels that these are serious figures for Montenegro and a great help to citizens and the economy.

"The program brought great benefits. Maybe we would have shaped it in a slightly different way if we were in the situation, but no one can dispute that we had 70 million in direct payments to the budget, and over 300 million in indirect payments in the previous period, which were not part of the budget. They will be part of the budget for the next year," said Abazović.

He stated that the government has repeatedly said that the economic citizenship program will end on December 31.

Abazović stated that he is not a stranger, nor is he in confrontation with the statement of the Minister of Finance, Aleksandar Damjanović, because they have to worry about the budget.

"We could not have known that there would be an aggression against Ukraine or a major energy crisis, which has affected Montenegro the least so far, but definitely caused major inflation everywhere in Europe, not only in Montenegro," said Abazović.

He said that creating new revenue value is extremely important and he is fully committed to doing what is their part of the job.

"It is not illogical that we have another request to the European Commission that would allow us to more easily overcome the situation when it comes to the sustainability of public finances," said Abazović.

He said that he would like to talk to the European Commission (EC) very openly, but that they have the opportunity to explain why some decisions were made in the previous period and how they can ease the situation in the future.
