Clearly defined the rights and obligations of olive oil producers

The Government submitted to the parliamentary procedure the Proposal for Amendments to the Law on Olive Farming and Olive Oil, which, among other things, more clearly defines the rights, obligations and responsibilities of companies and individuals that produce and put it on the market.

"The reasons for the adoption of the proposed legal regulation are more efficient work of the agricultural inspection and the implementation of penal provisions related to placing olive oil on the market, as well as illegal clearing of olive groves and construction in them," the explanation of that act states.

In addition, as it is added, harmonization of certain terms with the relevant valid laws is achieved, as well as defining the adoption of strategy and rezoning in the olive growing sector.

"The existing law and accompanying by-laws are harmonized with European legislation and confirmed international conventions." This ensures the application of both international standards, i.e. International Olive Council standards (Law on Confirmation of Agreements on Olive Oil), and European Union (EU) standards in this area," the explanation states.

When there is an estimate of the amount of financial resources needed for the implementation of the law, it is specified that financial resources from the budget of Montenegro in the amount of a maximum of two thousand euros per year are required.

"This expenditure refers to Article 5 of the law, which defines that the cost of olive oil quality assessment, which is carried out at the request of an authorized inspector, is borne by the line ministry. This is only in the event that the quality assessment at his request determines that the quality data from the product label are identical to the data of the existing quality assessment," explained the explanation.
