President of the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Milutin Đukanović, said at the ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of HPP "Piva" that this very facility shows how much can be done when there is will and knowledge.
He pointed out that he was sorry that so many decades had not been invested in the construction of at least one significant energy facility.
"The new management made an effort to start that investment wheel," said Đukanović.
According to him, HPP "Piva", with the future hydropower plants Kruševo and Komarnica, according to the opinion of serious energy experts, would represent the best hydropower system in Europe.
"We have to take advantage of this opportunity," said Đukanović and emphasized that they are advocating that the residents of Plužine and Šavnik vote in a referendum on the construction of the future Komarnica HPP.
He pointed out that the brake on the development of the energy system in Montenegro is rather poor legislation, unorganized public registers and a lack of professional staff.
According to the director of EPCG, Nikola Rovčanin, HPP "Piva" is a pillar and support of the energy system of Montenegro and that they approach its reconstruction and modernization with special care.
"We are finishing the last phase of reconstruction and modernization, the value of which is 10,3 million euros, plus an additional 600 thousand. Investments worth more than 100 million euros are underway in three power plants," Rovčanin said.
He pointed out that HPP "Piva" fulfilled 40 percent of the plan for 2023 and produced 290 thousand MW/h. He reminded that EPCG did not fulfill its obligations towards the Municipality of Plužine from the contract signed in 2010, but that in "the last two years they started that wheel and completed the first phase of the ring road", and that for this year the plan is to fulfill obligations in the amount of 4,5, XNUMX million euros.
The director of HPP "Piva", Nikola Daković, recalled the construction of the hydroelectric power plant, the information that 28 workers died during construction, that the dam captivates with its grandiosity and monumentality, and that HPP Piva is synonymous with a world wonder.
"If we look at its importance for Montenegro, for its energy and economic system, then every jubilee related to this hydroelectric power plant should be a holiday for the entire country," Daković said.
He pointed out that EPCG "remained an eternal debtor to the municipality of Plužine and its citizens" and promised that they will do their best to fulfill all obligations towards the municipality and that in the coming period, together with the local administration, they will be the bearers of the development of Piva.
Engineer Darko Rojević prepared a short presentation about the construction of HPP "Piva", but also about the current situation, about the performed reconstructions, modernization, equipment, production. As he said, HPP "Piva" is celebrating, but also thinking about the future. An insert from the film "One Hundred Years of the Montenegrin Electric Industry" was shown, which reminded that 4.500 builders from the then SFR Yugoslavia participated in the construction of HPP "Piva".
Marija Vukotić was the moderator of the ceremony, which was attended by members of the Board of Directors of the local administration of Plužina headed by the President of the Municipality Slobodan Delic, as well as other guests.
