The contract for the construction of the future boulevard on the M-1 highway, the section from Tivat Airport to Jaz, was signed today in Podgorica.

That section of the road, 16 kilometers long, will be turned into a four-lane road, and will have sidewalks on both sides and a dividing island. On behalf of the Government, the contract on reconstruction was signed by the Traffic Administration and the Regional Waterworks.

"As part of the reconstruction project, a new pipeline of the Regional Water Supply will be built in order to improve water supply to the municipalities of Tivat, Herceg Novi and Kotor," said the executive director of the Traffic Administration, Radomir Vuksanović, as reported by Mediabiro.

The reconstruction, as announced, will be completed in two years, and the works will be carried out by the Chinese consortium "Shandong".

"Improving traffic infrastructure will bring more development opportunities to Montenegro. We are ready to cooperate with the Government of Montenegro on deepening understanding through close cooperation. With the support of the Government of Montenegro and the Embassy of China, we will continue to maintain a professional attitude and take advantage of technological advantages in order to finish the project in a timely manner," said Lu Yao.

Prime Minister Dritan Abazović reminded that this part of the road has the highest frequency of traffic during the summer tourist season.

"It is devastating that it takes several hours to travel from Budva to Tivat Airport, and we know that it is a short section. This is only the first in a series of projects concerning the coast, which should facilitate traffic," Abazović said.

He said that more intensive work on the boulevard will begin after the summer, and he said that the Government's ambition is to build a continuation of the existing highway as well as the Adriatic-Ionian highway.
