Works on the Kotor-Lovćen cable car in the final phase

Works on the Kotor-Lovćen cable car are entering the final phase, which includes testing the infrastructure, as well as final works on connecting facilities.

"The testing is carried out in compliance with the strictest standards, which are guaranteed by the field supervision and coordination of the activities of the company Leitner", it is stated in the press release of the company Žičara Kotor-Lovćen.

They recalled that the foundation stone was laid on July 12 last year, and that today they are happy to announce that the activities are coming to an end.

"For us, it is an extremely complex and lengthy process of planning, designing and building, on a challenging terrain and in weather conditions that were not in our favor. A particularly important support for the entire process is provided by the partner company Leitner, whose credibility stems from a tradition of more than a century, and from which they classify this particular project as one of the most demanding in which they have participated. It is important that the imposing building is in the final stage, we hope to the satisfaction of the entire Montenegrin public and for the benefit of the strategic development of the domestic tourism industry", said the company.

The safety of the complex construction of the cable car and its associated facilities also required a certain degree of interventions on the ground, with an important note that they were reduced to a minimum and that they were accompanied by rehabilitation works which are also ongoing.

"The guiding idea and the key principle on which the project is based is the sustainable valorization of the Lovcen region, the uniqueness of which is untouched nature and authentic ambience. Therefore, the preservation and upgrading of the natural environment, in which the cable car is integrated, are our priority tasks," the announcement states.

The final works also include the greening of the terrain at the lower Dub station, while the activities in the Lovćen area will be carried out long-term and in coordination with the expert teams of the National Park (NP) Lovćen.

"The view of one of the most beautiful bays in the world and the untouched nature of Lovćen National Park are the backbone of the project. This is precisely why our primary task is to preserve the value of this unique area. All our plans are directed in that direction, from the way we create content, primarily focused on active vacations, through the planned support for NP, which it will be able to count on in the long term. Experiencing untouched nature will be and will remain our key priority," the company said.

In the following period, the public will be informed in a timely manner about the start date of the cable car and all other important details regarding this tourist attraction.

The project is being implemented by the Novi Volvox-Leitner consortium on the basis of a concession agreement signed in December 2021.

The route of the cable car starts from Dub, which is located in the territory of the Municipality of Kotor, and leads to the location of Kuk on the Lovćen mountain, at 1,35 thousand meters above sea level.

The length of the route is about 3,9 thousand meters, the projected capacity of 48 gondolas at the level of 1,2 thousand passengers per hour, while the travel time from Dub station to Kuk station is less than 11 minutes.
