Executive Director of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Nikola Rovčanin, said today that money from eco fees paid by registered polluters should be directed towards citizens for the energy efficiency of their homes.

Rovčanin announced on Facebook that he announced this at a panel dedicated to the financing of projects as part of the just transition, which was held in Podgorica.

"Through a mass action, the money from eco-taxes, which will be worth over 100 million by 2030, should be directed towards citizens through a large household energy efficiency project. The money paid by polluters, including EPCG, about 10 million euros per year, should be used to and residential buildings with subsidies get new facades, new carpentry and solar power plants," he said.

Rovčanin said that this model was started through the Solari 3000 + project where, out of nine million EPCG, which were paid in the name of eco fees, six million were returned to citizens for the installation of solar power plants.

"Also, it is very important to start domestic production and mass production (for example, the production of PVC carpentry in Željezara). This is how we will start production, employ people, and the homes of our citizens will be more beautiful and energy efficient, thus rounding off the system," Rovčanin wrote on Facebook.
