The Union of Free Trade Unions (USSCG) submitted today an initiative to the Government and the Assembly to propose and adopt changes to the Pension and Disability Insurance Act (PIO) as a matter of urgency.
The initiative is to adopt amendments to Article 17 of the PIO Act as a matter of urgency at the sessions of the Government and the Assembly, with the proposal that they state that the insured acquires the right to an old-age pension upon reaching the age of 64 (men and women) and at least 15 years of service insurance.
USSCG submitted the initiatives in order to overcome the situation caused, as they said, by the unconscionable and irresponsible decision of the Constitutional Court.
USSCG also submitted an initiative to the president of the Assembly and all parliamentary clubs to dismiss the judges of the Constitutional Court, who contributed to the controversial decision of the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court recently repealed the article of the law according to which the right to an old-age pension is acquired when the insured man reaches the age of 66 and the woman turns 64, and at least 15 years of insurance experience, so that now the only condition for obtaining a pension would remain a full 40 years of insurance experience.
In a decision, the Constitutional Court ordered the Government to adopt a new text of the law within 30 days, which must be in accordance with the court's assessment that women must not be positively discriminated against in relation to men.
With this new proposal, the Government could return the decision to retire with a minimum of 15 years of service, but for men and women to be equal in terms of the number of required years of life, or give a different explanation why women should have a more privileged status.
