The president of the Workers' Party, Maksim Vučinić, said that he resigned from the position of chairman of the board of directors of the state company EPCG-Zeljezara Nikšić after "unpleasant scenes and events" at a meeting with workers, where, as he said, he was threatened and physically attacked.
In the announcement, he stated, among other things, that he did not have the support of the union and the company's management to "move the situation in the factory from a standstill".
Vučinić said that during his mandate in the Parliament of Montenegro, he "dedicated himself absolutely to the workers in Montenegro", especially the workers of the mining and metal sector and, finally, especially the workers of the Iron and Steel Plant, and that this is "witnessed by many parliamentary investigations, laws, amendments, as and all possible institutional and non-institutional struggles".
"I had the motive to be a part of the reconstruction of the economy. The Nikšić Ironworks, a complex of national importance, which we returned to the ownership of the state company EPCG and thereby gave a great chance for new development and diversification of the economy, is something to be proud of. I was elected to the position of president of the board on September 4 this year. From then until the day I submitted my resignation, I made every effort to move the situation in the factory from a standstill, however, I did not have the support of either the union or the company management. The unhealthy atmosphere, which has been present for a long time, gives the impression that the aforementioned the most acceptable existing status. After unpleasant scenes and events at the meeting with the workers, where I was threatened and physically attacked, my resignation followed," Vučinić announced.
