My team and I are doing everything to ensure that the Draft Law on Waste Management is placed on the Government's agenda by the end of the year. I also expect that the finalization of the Draft Law on Protection from the Negative Impact of Climate Change and Protection of the Ozone Layer will be speeded up, so that at the end of both laws, they will be before the Montenegrin MPs as soon as possible.
This was said by the relevant minister, Vladimir Martinović, at a meeting with the head of the World Bank office for Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christopher Sheldon.
The topic of the meeting, as announced by the Ministry, was past and future cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, as well as proposals for two laws that need to be finalized.
"At the beginning of the meeting, Sheldon referred to the successful implementation of the Industrial Waste Management and Cleaning project, which included the export of hazardous waste from the former shipyard in Bijela, which was recognized as one of the ecological black spots, and the implementation of which brought Montenegro closer to the European Union ( EU) and the very closing of Chapter 27," the announcement reads.
Sheldon said that the adoption of the aforementioned laws is necessary for the continuation of the cooperation between the Government and the World Bank on the implementation of the Loan based on public policies, and Martinović said that the Ministry will work to speed up the adoption of both laws.
At the meeting, completed, ongoing activities and projects were presented, for which there is a certain interest of the Government of Montenegro for further cooperation with the World Bank within the framework of the new partnership agreement.
"Sheldon expressed his readiness to support the activities of the Ministry in the direction of environmental protection, and as part of the preparation of the new partnership framework, and on this occasion, he will hold consultations and technical discussions. Martinović said that the priority of the Ministry is the implementation of the recommendations from Brussels, because that is the only way to be closed Chapter 27," the statement said.
The meeting discussed the importance of the development of the north, tourism, where representatives of the World Bank expressed their willingness to provide advisory assistance.
