Ivan Radević, president of the Beran committee of the Socialist People's Party (SNP), called on the Government to answer why only two million euros from the state budget were earmarked for capital investments in that municipality.
They are asking the Government to "find a way" to include in the final version of the Budget decision the items on the basis of which more money will be invested for infrastructure projects in Berane.
Two days ago, "Vijesti" announced that, according to the draft capital budget for 2024, investments of two million euros are planned in Berane, the most of which is for the reconstruction and extension of the health center of 550 thousand euros, a new city road of half a million, according to 200 thousand for the regional department of the school in Donji Luge and the reconstruction of the General Hospital. According to that document, the total value of the capital budget is 240 million euros.
"Listening to the promises made in the 'Europe now' program, regarding the balanced regional development of Montenegro, we thought that better days are coming for Berane as well. All the more so, because in the newly elected government, the main talking points are held by the cadres of the parties that exercise power at the local level as well. However, the news that it is planned to allocate only two million euros from the state budget for capital investments, out of the indicated 240 million euros, for the municipality of Berane, we realized that this will obviously not be the case. In the given situation, we demand from those responsible in the Government of Montenegro to answer us why such small funds are allocated to solve the accumulated infrastructural problems in our municipality. Let them say whether this is a reflection of the poor communication of the local authorities with the current minister of finance and the prime minister himself, or if the responsible people from the local government sent badly done project tasks. Let them they say why someone is targeting the citizens of Beran in this way and hindering the further development of our city," said Radević.
He said that they were convinced that "things would be completely different" if the SNP was the holder of the local government, "which according to the logic of things it belonged to".
"In this way, we could not influence the creation of the distribution of money from the state treasury, nor the candidacy of projects sent to the Government. However, this is another proof that the policy of the SNP was and is based on solving vital problems and improving the available capacities, which , among other things, also speak of the multimillion-dollar investment in the modernization of public health institutions in our city. That is why, regardless of the fact that individuals try to belittle the effect of the SNP during the realization of capital investments in our city, we demand that the current government find a way to, in the final version of the decision on the Budget calculate the items on the basis of which more money will be invested for infrastructural projects. We also insist that the completion of works on the construction and reconstruction of important roads in this part of Montenegro be accelerated and that those responsible in state institutions and local administration say what the future fate of the Beran airport is." , concluded Radević.
