The Minister expressed his willingness to take an active part, to contribute to the long-term strengthening of the market position of this extremely important sector for Montenegro, through communication with the developed trade sector, to mutual satisfaction. The minister accepted the idea of the need to finance continuous media promotion and affirmation of the idea of buying domestic products, the realization of which leads to the substitution of imports with domestic dairy products, as a condition for increasing the purchase of milk, and thus the development of animal husbandry", according to the press release of the Association of Dairy Farmers of Montenegro. , Danilovgrad Livestock Breeders' Association and the Agricultural Cluster of Montenegro.
At the meeting, the representatives of farmers, dairymen and cheese makers, as stated, informed the minister about the complex situation in which the sector finds itself, the difficult position on the domestic market, the serious threat caused by the dumping of certain imported dairy products, insufficient budgetary support, the multi-year negative trend in sale of sour-milk products.
"On the other hand, a significant potential for the development of dairy farming was pointed out, the growing purchase of milk this year, which is caused by subsidized imports and the raising of own pregnant heifers. A general agreement was reached that by purchasing domestic products, one invests in one's own country, in one's own offspring, and by purchasing imported products, one invests in exporting countries," the announcement reads.
They discussed possible directions of development and activities that should be implemented in order to achieve greater participation and better positioning of domestic dairy products on the domestic market.
"Supposedly, it would generate an increase in the purchase of milk, the strengthening and development of domestic farms. It was established that there is no place for liberalism in agriculture, even in much more developed countries, but also that the development of animal husbandry, as the backbone of agriculture, cannot be achieved without significant budgetary support".
