Vukić: Ask the EU for an alternative for the economic citizenship program

Economic citizenship must have an alternative, in order for a similar program to continue in a way that would be acceptable to the European Union, and which would satisfy the interests of Montenegro in economic development, said the SNP official and adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Dragan Vukić, secretary of the Executive Committee of the Main Committee of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) and advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Demography and Youth, called on the Government, namely the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Filip Ivanovic, to open the issue of economic citizenship with the European Commission.

He said that economic citizenship must have an alternative, in order for a similar program to continue in a way that would be acceptable to the European Union, and which would satisfy the interests of Montenegro in economic development.

"From the paid compensations, we can and must set aside for salary increases for all those with whom branch collective agreements have been signed and a linear increase in pensions for retirees," announced Vukić.

He reminds that, according to the data of the Investment Agency, from the beginning of the economic citizenship program until its termination, a total of 807 citizenships were granted.

"The economic benefits were enormous, which gives us the right to ask for an alternative from the EU and for the granting of economic citizenships to be with their consent, but without total abolition. This is a solution that guarantees greater investment in Montenegro. It will not threaten the functioning of the system, and positively will affect the position of all employees and pensioners," concluded Vukić.
