On Wednesday, the working group considering the documentation related to the concession for geological research and ore exploitation in the area of Brskov near Mojkovac will vote whether to propose to the Government the termination of the concession contract.

According to the earlier plan, the vote was supposed to be held today, but it was postponed due to unexpected documentation and the inability of members to express themselves.

The working group, which includes representatives of several state institutions, concessionaires and the non-governmental sector, was formed by the Minister of Energy and Mining Saša Mujović. It has the task of making recommendations to the Government by the end of February regarding the concession for geological research and ore exploitation, which was awarded in 2010 and is now used by the company "Brskovo mine". Behind this company is the off-shore company "Tara resources".

So far, the office of the Protector of Property Legal Interests of the State has declared for the termination of the contract because it believes that the concessionaire has violated the contract, as well as the Ministry of Ecology, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Institute of Public Health because the mine would cause environmental damage and harm people's health. According to discussions so far, two representatives of the NGO sector are also for termination.

The representatives of the concessionaire denied the allegations stating that the state was violating the contract because the detailed spatial plan was not completed, as well as that the future mine would comply with the strictest environmental regulations. The concessionaire also announced the possibility of starting arbitration proceedings against Montenegro if he were to lose the concession as well as compensation for damages.
