Former workers of the metal-mining sector will protest in front of the Government building today, because even after three months of the adoption of the necessary legal solutions, they have not yet been paid for their missing benefits.
This is what the representative of these workers, Željko Peruničić, told "Vijesta".
Norms that facilitated retirement were previously used when, due to the closure of the company or production, workers of KAP, Željezara, Bauxite Mine, Metalac.... Similar legal solutions were in force in the past years, when they were used by approx. six thousand workers, but then this last group could not use them. With this law, they can retire with 25 years of service or at least 15 years spent in workplaces, for which service is counted with increased duration.
Peruničić explained that at the beginning of the year, it was adopted for the needs of around 50 former workers lex specialis but that since then the process has been stopped. He emphasized that we are about to enter April and that this regulation lasts for a year, which is why it is necessary to act as soon as possible.
"For us, this is a matter of life. If we were to start this process tomorrow, it would not be completed until October, and our legal deadline is the end of 2024," he said.
Former workers protested several times in February, and during the last gathering in front of the Government, they were received for an interview by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica. Peruničić stated that they were previously promised a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Niko Đeljošaj, but that since then there has been no feedback or meeting.
