The Minister of Energy and Mining, Saša Mujović, asked the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) to get involved and help solve the issue of dividing the waters of Lake Bileć, the process of energy transition and the development of the power sector.
This is the epilogue of the meeting that Mujović held yesterday with CANU representatives.
"It was pointed out that a strong institutional cooperation is necessary in which CANU, through the inclusion of eminent and relevant personalities that it gathers, would be an active participant in solving existing problems in the field of energy and ecology that require positions based primarily on scientific foundations," the announcement states.
Elektroprivrede Republika Srpska (ERS) manages two of the four hydroelectric plants from this system that uses water from Bileć Lake, the third hydroelectric plant is "Dubrovnik" where ERS and Hrvatska elektroprivreda share the generated electricity, while the fourth "Capljina" is located in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. All these hydropower plants, built in the period from 1965 to 1981, fully or partially use water from Lake Bileć, part of which belongs to Montenegro, which did not participate in their construction at the time, but neither approved the construction nor waived its rights.
The president of CANU, Dragan K. Vukčević, reportedly offered Mujović cooperation on a potential future lexicographic project of CANU and the creation of the Lexicon of Engineers of Montenegro. In addition, it was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation, through which fields of joint action will be defined in terms of organizing round tables and tribunes, where the scientific views and messages of the community will be heard on important topics and problems in energy and ecology.
In addition to Mujović and Vukčević, CANU Vice President Ljubiša Stanković, President of the Department of Natural Sciences Predrag Miranović, head of the "ENEKO" center Igor Đurović, head Novak Vukadinović and independent adviser at the "ENEKO" center Snežana Dragićević attended the meeting.
