The Ministry of Tourism, Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERT) presented the most significant investments in the tourism sector in Montenegro at the meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, which was held in Tirana.

"The key achieved results were presented at the meeting, with a focus on strategic goals and priorities and rebranding of the organization, as well as data on tourist traffic and numerous initiatives. The framework for the Agenda for Europe was adopted at the meeting," the Ministry's announcement stated.

The meeting, which brought together the highest representatives from 40 countries, was attended by the Acting General Director of the Directorate for Tourism Development and Drafting of Regulations, Svetlana Šljivančanin and the contact point for UN Tourism for Montenegro, Maja Kovačević.

Šljivančanin spoke about the importance of tourism for Montenegro and thanked UN Tourism for the latest technical support through the Aviareps grant, which is related to destination marketing.

In addition, the second meeting of the Working Group for Southeast Europe was held, where investments and illegal short-term renting of accommodation capacities, so-called short-term rentals, were discussed.

Šljivančanin reflected on the situation in Montenegro, with a focus on the most important investments in the sector, namely in infrastructure at ski resorts worth around 112 million euros and investment in 16 hotels in the southern and northern regions, worth around 450 million euros.

When it comes to short-term rentals, Šljivančanin confirmed the influence of online platforms on their expansion, referred to the legislative framework in Montenegro and pointed out the importance of the European Parliament's regulations in that area.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Investment in Tourism and Economic Development in Europe conference was held.
