In five months, Montenegro has made significant progress in fulfilling the obligations of the Energy Community, said Minister of Energy and Mining Saša Mujović.

As reported by the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Mujović said this in a conversation with the director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkovski, who is on a working visit to Montenegro with his colleagues.

The Ministry said that Mujović reminded that certain instructions he received at the Ministerial Council in December last year were worrisome.

"Although in December of last year, at the Ministerial meeting of the Energy Community, Montenegro was far from fulfilling its obligations in the Community, in five months enormous progress was made in that direction," said Mujović.

As he added, Montenegro lacked key strategic, umbrella documents covering the field of energy and energy systems.

"In the first place, the national climate energy plan, numerous laws, such as the Law on the Use of RES, the Law on Oil and Oil Derivatives, as well as many other legal solutions, but also the obligation to translate European regulations into our legislation," said Mujović. .

As he added, Montenegro took the message of the Energy Community seriously.

"We set to work and I think that in these five months we have made, to be honest, steps of seven miles," Mujović pointed out.

He reminded that the visit of representatives of the Energy Community, led by its director Lorkovski, is a real opportunity to see how far reforms and obligations have gone, as well as to hear advice for the future.

"I think that we are on the right track, that we should continue to follow this direction that we have started. With a serious approach, along with fulfilling European obligations, I believe that Montenegro is on the right course to fulfill what has already been undertaken, and it refers to the period until 2030 and until 2050," concluded Mujović.

As announced by the Ministry, Lorkovski welcomed the Montenegrin Government's decision to form the Ministry of Energy and Mining.

"It is a very good sign that shows readiness to strengthen cooperation with the EU, under the auspices of the Energy Community, and certainly cooperation with the region," said Lorkovski.

According to him, one of the primary issues is the integration of the electricity market.

"We want Montenegro to be fully integrated into the European Union (EU) market, especially with Italy, that is one of the goals of the Energy Community, but also for Montenegro to be fully integrated with the countries of the Western Balkans, which is equally important," he explained. is Lorkovsky.

As he added, another topic is decarbonization and how to deal with climate change.

"I think that this agenda for talks is very ambitious, but I believe that it is a good step for continuing cooperation with Mujović and the relevant ministry in order to make Montenegro a part of the EU and the European energy market," concluded Lorkovski.
