The Republika Srpska (RS) is ready for an agreement on the Bileć Lake, said the RS Minister of Energy and Mining, Petar Đokić.
In a letter to his Montenegrin colleague Saša Mujović, he said that they are ready for an agreement and discussion.
"I express complete readiness for a conversation and an agreement when it comes to the reservoirs of Lake Bileć," said Đokić in response to Mujović's call from March 27, to take joint steps in the direction of solving this issue.
Đokić added that in the meantime he had held certain consultations with Elektroprivreda RS.
"We are ready to continue communication on this issue in such a way as to agree on the date of the meeting that the two delegations would attend, with the aim of finding a mutually satisfactory solution to the issue in question," Đokić pointed out.
He recalled the "readiness and common understanding and effort to improve and expand cooperation within the region in the departmental areas we manage and to find solutions for certain open issues".
"This is particularly related to the resolution of the Bileć Lake reservoir issue, and in this sense I express my complete readiness for discussion and agreement," Đokić added.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining of Montenegro said that Đokić's letter is the first concrete step in solving the Bileć Lake issue, which has been a decades-long issue between the three countries.
As it is added, the most important step was taken at the trilateral meeting of the ministers of energy and mining held in Belgrade at the invitation of Serbian colleague Dubravka Đedović Handanović.
At the meeting, as stated, it was agreed in principle that all common potentials should be approached on the principles of cooperation and mutual respect, in the partnership of friendly countries.
The Ministry said that immediately after the meeting in Belgrade, Mujović sent an invitation to Đokić to begin the implementation of the agreement, and that the best test would be Lake Bilećko.
"The issue of Lake Bilečki is a test of our joint capacity and ability to cooperate, to resolve disputed issues by agreement, with full respect and understanding. Let's be that political force that created a solid foundation for even closer relations of generations to come," said Mujović at the time.
The Ministry said that they will inform the public about the date of the meeting of the two delegations in a timely manner.
