At the proposal of the Minister of Tourism, Ecology, Sustainable and Development of the North, Vladimir Martinović, the government adopted programs to encourage energy efficiency in the hotel industry and facilities that provide catering services.
In cooperation with the Minister of Energy and Mining, Saša Mujović, a comprehensive program was launched to encourage energy efficiency in the hotel industry and facilities that provide catering services.
Martinović, as stated in the announcement, explained that with these measures they want to help hoteliers and restaurateurs to reduce expenses for electricity.
"As a responsible government that analyzes the state of the economy, we have decided to provide support programs worth 3,5 million and, most importantly, grants of 30 to 70 percent, so that as a state we share the burden with our tourism economy," said Martinović and added that the public call for programs will be announced by Eko-fond as an implementation unit immediately in June, and the signing of contracts with end users is expected at the end of September.
He stated that these and previous measures show that the Government firmly stands behind tourism entrepreneurs, and that it is their support and support.
"There is no accelerated development without a quality strategy and state support. We don't have time for words, we move on to concrete actions. We speak about our work with actions," said Martinović and added that this is only the beginning and a small part of the program that the 44th Government will implement during its mandate.
It is a program to encourage energy efficiency in the hotel industry, whose budget is three million euros, and a program to encourage energy efficiency in facilities that provide catering services in households and rural households, whose budget is EUR 500 thousand.
The programs will provide grants on a sliding scale of 30 to 70 percent, so that small and micro tourism businesses can implement measures that will improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Priority will be given to hotels that operate throughout the year and catering establishments in less developed municipalities, especially in the north of the country.
Funds for this program were provided directly from the budget within the package of emergency support of the European Union to the countries of the Western Balkans, with technical support from the Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and cooperation with the Eco-Fund. "These programs are part of the broader strategy of Montenegro to improve the tourism product based on the principles of sustainable development, providing a quality and diverse offer that improves the competitiveness of the destination. Special attention is devoted to the development of rural tourism, which will contribute to the diversification of the tourist offer," concluded Martinović.
