There is room for more intensive cooperation between Montenegro and Turkey, and in particular, trade exchange and investments could be increased, said the president of the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG), Nina Drakić.
"I expect that the leaders of Izmir will recognize the opportunities for business expansion in our country and take advantage of the current opportunities for investment," said Drakić, who participated in the work of the conference dedicated to trade and investment opportunities in Montenegro, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Turkish region of Izmir.
The goal of the meeting, as announced by the PKCG, was to strengthen the trade cooperation between the two countries and to inform the businessmen of Izmir about the possibilities for investing and establishing partnerships with companies from Montenegro.
Drakić expressed her belief that the event will contribute to connecting business communities, increasing trade exchange and investments from Turkey.
She said that she especially appreciates the interest of the Chamber of Izmir and the initiative for cooperation and even more meaningful economic relations between the two countries.
Drakić reminded that the umbrella association of Montenegrin businessmen cooperates very well with the Turkish Embassy in Montenegro, the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and other associations, which results in frequent meetings of business representatives, as well as the participation of our businessmen at Turkish fairs.
"I also consider the opening of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro to be significant, with which we signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the beginning of the year with the aim of facilitating trade between the two countries, realizing investments, providing support to companies that want to enter the Montenegrin or Turkish market, promoting joint investments and strategic partnerships between companies, and contributing to the development of a favorable business environment in our countries," said Drakić.
She announced that foreign direct investments are an important driver and carrier of the development of the Montenegrin economy, and that since 2006 their total inflow from more than 126 countries amounted to 14 billion.
Turkish businessmen recognized Montenegro as an attractive investment destination. Especially since joining NATO, Montenegro has become a popular destination for investments and starting a business, and according to official data, last year, more than a quarter of the total number of foreign companies were owned by Turkish businessmen.
Total investments from Turkey from 2018 to last year amounted to 312 million euros, and the largest inflow was realized in the past year in the amount of 85,3 million euros.
Drakić apostrophized the great potential for new investments throughout Montenegro.
"Investments in production sectors will also contribute to increasing the resistance of our economy to increasingly frequent crises. In addition to tourism, energy and investments in green energy represent the greatest chance for growth and development, while agriculture and the food industry are becoming more and more interesting for investment, especially due to the possibility of placing products on the doorstep, i.e. through the tourist economy," said Drakić, highlighting the infrastructure, ICT, wood processing and other sectors equally attractive for foreign capital.
