Montenegro has made significant progress in applying the requirements of the ECAA agreement, not only in relation to the first transition period, but also the second, and is at the very top in terms of fulfilling its obligations, assessed the director of the Civil Aviation Agency, Ivan Šćekić.
"This was also confirmed by the latest report of the European Commission (EC). It was emphasized that full compliance with the requirements related to the first transition period was achieved in all areas of aviation, with the exception of several open issues in the field of economic regulations, which have also been resolved in the meantime," Šćekić said.
At the meeting of the Joint Committee of the ECAA - Agreement on the creation of a common European aviation area, he assessed that this achievement is the result of dedicated work, above all of the Agency, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs and other actors in the field of air transport, to fulfill the obligations of the ECAA.
Director for Aviation in the European Commission - Directorate General for Mobility and Transport DG MOVE, Filip Kornelis, pointed out the importance of the opportunity for the directors of regional aviation authorities to gather to exchange impressions on what has been achieved.
"Aviation is very important, especially in this region. I am happy to say that we have made great progress in the stages of EU accession compared to all other areas. Traffic in the region is growing and it is important for the EC that the signatory states achieve that it takes place in a safe and secure manner", said Kornelis.
Podgorica is hosting a two-day meeting of the Joint Committee of the ECAA Agreement, which ends today, and the EC and CAA are co-organizers of the working meeting of the top aviation authorities.
Questions from the field of civil aviation were discussed, in connection with the fulfillment of obligations from the ECAA. From the Montenegrin side, the Joint Committee was informed by the representatives of the CAA, the Agency for the Protection of Competition and the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs.
Montenegro is one of the signatories of this agreement, which is important in the process of enlargement of the European Union (EU) and for the economic development of the countries, and the Joint Committee of the ECAA is responsible for its implementation and proper application.
The Agency announced that the results achieved by CAA, confirmed during the control visits of international and European partners, can be considered very good and successful in this area, even compared to more developed countries than Montenegro.
"Control missions best show how much progress Montenegro has achieved in a short period of time in the field of aviation. They confirmed that the country is at the top of the countries in the region, but also in Europe - in terms of efficiency in the application of European and international standards", said Šćekić.
In addition to representatives of the EC, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Montenegrin competent institutions, the meeting was attended by countries that signed the agreement and individual EU countries, as well as directors of civil aviation agencies from the region.
